Shri. Arun Jha, IAS (Retd.)

Shri Arun Jha, an IAS officer of the 1981 batch retired as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and SC Commission. Earlier he held important positions in the Government of India as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Joint Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizer, Director in the Ministry of Agriculture . In the State Government of Bihar, Shri Jha has held important positions like Secretary Food and Civil Supplies, Secretary Excise, Secretary Culture .

 

Shri Jha’s forte inter alia are tribal development, governance reforms and best practices, pharmaceuticals industry and pricing and natural disaster management.

 

Shri Jha has been a gold medalist in M.A. in the Department of Political Science of the Delhi University . He spent a year at the MIT in US as a World Bank scholar.

 

Shri Jha has twice attended Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government for courses on Innovation and Leadership. He also participated in a course in Australia conducted by ANZSOG. He attended a course on Ethics and Governance in university of California, Berkeley . He has represented the Indian Government in China ( Min of Personnel and AR) in the US thrice ( Department of Pharmaceuticals) in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg (Department of Pharmaceuticals)in the Commonwealth Secretariat , London (Ministry of Personnel and Administrative Reforms ) Board of Governors, IIAS Brussels (Ministry of Personnel and Administrative Reforms)

 

Shri Jha is an avid reader. He is interested in comparative political economy, global governance best practices, current developments in Pharma and Biotechnology , Tribal Development etc.
